Cookie Notice
Effective date: 23 February 2026 · Last updated: 23 February 2026
This Cookie Notice explains how Mei-Sgela (PTY) Ltd ("TMS", "we", "us") uses cookies and similar technologies when you visit or use the Mei-SgelaPro platform ("Platform").
This Notice supplements our Privacy Policy. By using the Platform, you acknowledge the use of cookies as described here. You can manage your cookie preferences at any time using the Cookie Settings banner or by adjusting your browser settings.
1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile) by a website when you visit it. They are widely used to make websites and web applications work more efficiently and to provide information to the site operators.
We also use localStorage and sessionStorage — browser-based storage mechanisms — to store preferences and session data client-side. These function similarly to cookies for the purposes of this Notice.
2. Types of Cookies We Use
2.1 Essential / Strictly Necessary Cookies
These cookies are required for the Platform to function. They cannot be disabled without breaking core functionality. No consent is required for these cookies under GDPR Recital 25 and equivalent provisions.

| csrf_token | Prevents cross-site request forgery attacks | Session | HTTP cookie |
| institution_id | Identifies the active institution tenant for the session | Session | localStorage |
| cookie_consent | Stores your cookie preference selection | 1 year | localStorage |
2.2 Functional Cookies
These cookies enhance your experience by remembering your preferences. They are not essential but improve usability. Consent is required.
| Name | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| theme | Remembers your light/dark mode preference | 1 year | localStorage |
| sidebar_state | Remembers whether the sidebar is open or collapsed | 30 days | Cookie |
| lang | Stores your selected language preference (if applicable) | 1 year | localStorage |
2.3 Analytics Cookies
We may use privacy-respecting analytics to understand how the Platform is used and to improve it. Any analytics data is aggregated and anonymised. Consent is required. At this time, no third-party analytics scripts (e.g., Google Analytics) are loaded without your consent.
| Name | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| _mei_session | Internal session analytics (anonymised page views and feature usage) | 30 days | Cookie |
2.4 Advertising / Marketing Cookies
We do not use advertising or marketing cookies on the Platform. We do not share personal data with advertising networks or allow retargeting pixels on any authenticated dashboard page.
3. Third-Party Cookies
The Platform may include embedded content or links to third-party services. These third parties may set their own cookies. We do not control these cookies and recommend reviewing the privacy notices of any third-party service you interact with:
- Resend — email delivery tracking (open/click events for transactional emails). See Resend Privacy Policy.
- Cloudflare — CDN and security cookies (__cf_bm, cf_clearance). These are essential for DDoS protection. See Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
4. Legal Basis for Cookie Use
Under the GDPR (and equivalent laws):
- Essential cookies — no consent required (Legitimate Interest / necessary for service operation)
- Functional cookies — Consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR)
- Analytics cookies — Consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR)
Under POPIA (South Africa), cookies that process personal information require a lawful basis. Essential cookies rely on Section 11(1)(f) (legitimate interest); optional cookies rely on Section 11(1)(a) (consent of the data subject).
Under PECR (UK) and the ePrivacy Directive (EU), non-essential cookies require informed, freely given, specific consent before being set.
5. Managing Your Cookie Preferences
5.1 Cookie consent banner
When you first visit the Platform, a cookie banner will appear. You can choose to:
- Accept All — enables essential, functional, and analytics cookies
- Essential Only — enables only strictly necessary cookies
- Manage Preferences — choose individual cookie categories
You can change your preference at any time by clicking Cookie Settings in the footer of the Platform.
5.2 Browser controls
You can also control cookies through your browser settings. Below are links to instructions for major browsers:
Note: Blocking essential cookies may prevent some or all features of the Platform from working correctly.
5.3 Do Not Track
Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal. We currently honour DNT signals by disabling non-essential tracking when a DNT signal is detected.
6. Changes to This Notice
We may update this Cookie Notice from time to time to reflect changes in technology, regulation, or our practices. Updates will be posted here with a revised "Last updated" date. For material changes, we will notify institution administrators by email.
